Overview
HEARTS "Heart function Assessment Registry Trial in Saudi Arabia" is a national medical registry of the heart failure disease in all major geographical regions of Saudi Arabia
The main goal of Hearts registry is to study the current practice patterns in the management of patients with acute HF in order to assess the gap between practice & evidence to improve the quality of cardiac care provided to such large population.
A furthermore strategic goal of this study is to establish heart function clinics across the country that will reduce the morbidity and hopefully the mortality of the heart failure disease by managing high-risk chronic HF patients.

Our Vision
To improve the morbidity and mortality of acute and chronic heart failure patients by improvement of evidence-based therapies and establishment of disease management programs.
Organization Structure
Several medical professional entities are integrated in HEARTS registry & represented by the Principal Coordinating Center, the Steering Committee, the satellite site principal investigators, & professional research assistants. The Principal Coordinating Center is chaired by Dr. Khalid F. AlHabib, Assistant Professor of Medicine & Head of Cardiology Dept. at King Fahad Cardiac Center, King Khalid University Hospital and King Saud university. Riyadh. additionally, he is the principal investigator of CARES & GULF-ACS presently undergoing registries & the former SPACE Registry.
Project Description
Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome that can result from any structural or functional cardiac disorder that impairs the ability of the ventricle to fill with or eject blood. The cardinal manifestations of HF are dyspnea and fatigue, which may limit exercise tolerance, and fluid retention, which may lead to pulmonary congestion & peripheral edema. It represents a major and growing public health problem. Since there are no data documenting .......
Our Objectives
►To describe a comprehensive view (E.R/In-patient/Out-patient) of the current causes, diagnostic & treatment strategies, short and long-term prognosis for patients with HF (systolic versus diastolic).
►To identify opportunities to improve the care of patients with HF through implementation of quality initiative programs
►To create a permanent database tool for continuous quality measurement useful to both country-wide studies and to individual hospitals seeking to improve quality of care & allow comparison with local and national practice patterns (i.e: NOT how to choose a hospital when seeking cardiac care since the involved hospitals will be kept anonymous in the publication process)
►To evaluate practice trends in the proper use of old &/or new tests medications & devices, & encourage use of those with clear evidence and thus raise the standard of care & reduce the gap between guidelines and "real-life" practice.
